BACK TO PROTON THERAPY

Annalise,

I remember how hard you worked to write your name in cursive. You’d sit at the kitchen table making drawings and cards for everyone in the family—to be sweet and to sign your name and show off your cursive skills. Not to mention how you always replaced the dot of your i’s with a ❤️ heart.

I’m looking at this craft you made before your first treatment in this new round of proton therapy, and my heart aches. Top left is where you tried to write your name in cursive. Below that is where Mom wrote your name for you. I can’t imagine how you feel, seeing something you worked so hard to do, now be… so hard to do. And yet, you’re still smiling. You’re still making this craft the best you can. That’s my girl. That’s why we’re back here getting these proton treatments. You seemed to enjoy going back, not because you like proton therapy, because you like tackling problems and I can tell you want to solve this one. I know you, your strength, and your heart. I have no doubt that in time, you’ll be writing your beautiful name again, in cursive.

I can’t wait to see it.
